The semi-finals will feature 11 pianists who have been selected through a videotaped selection process. They will perform 30-40-minute recitals consisting of works by Fryderyk Chopin, which must include mazurkas, nocturnes and large form. The Competition Jury will qualify 3 pianists for the final of the Competition, who will perform a selected Chopin concerto on Monday 13 May together with the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo under the direction of José Maria Florêncio.
The winner of the Competition can benefit from a simplified qualification procedure for the 19th International Chopin Competition, which gives him or her the opportunity to skip the selection phase based on DVD recordings. He or she will also be invited for a study visit to Poland.
