Sa Chen
4th Prize winner, 14th International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw (2000). Sa Chen began learning piano with Professor Dan Zhaoyi at the Sichuan Conservatoire (1991–1995), continuing at the Shenzhen Arts School with the same teacher (1995–1997). She then moved to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Joan Havill (1997–2000). From 2001 she has been studying at the Hochschule für Musik in Hanover with Arie Vardi.
Sa Chen first participated in a music competition at the age of 15 (China International Piano Competition in Beijing, 1994), resulting in invitations to perform in China and Australia. In 1996, she took 4th Prize at the International Piano Competition in Leeds, and four years later again 4th Prize at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw (2000), where she also claimed the Chopin Society Award for best polonaise performance.
Ms. Chen has performed in England (including at the prestigious Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, and Barbican Center Hall in London), Australia (including the Sydney Opera House), Poland and other countries. She played Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under Simon Rattle to great acclaim, and Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 1 in F sharp minor.
Ms. Chen has recorded her first CD for JVC, featuring a Chopin programme.
