Warsaw is the city of Fryderyk's childhood and youth. Chopin's parents ran a boarding school for boys in the capital, so little Freddie had many opportunities to get to know its streets, backstreets and palaces.
It was here that he played his first public concert and fell in love for the first time. In Warsaw, he built his popularity first as a child prodigy and later as the best student of Józef Elsner.
You can listen to more about Fryderyk Chopin's family life, studies and the beginnings of his path as a pianist and composer in the Chopin Institute's latest podcast, available in Polish on popular streaming services, including Spotify.
