Janusz Olejniczak passes away

Thumbnail

Janusz Olejniczak was one of the world's most outstanding artists. Endowed with extraordinary sensitivity and beautiful tone, he interpreted the works of Fryderyk Chopin in a deeply moving and individual way. He was a laureate of the VIII Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1970 and a member of the competition jury a number of times. He made numerous recordings, both on contemporary and historical instruments. He knew how to share the beauty of music not only with his loving audience, performing almost every year at the Chopin and His Europe festivals, but also with young musicians, for whom he was an authority, an open and empathetic mentor. He was one of the most important Polish pianists of the last hundred years. He passed away at the age of 72.

The Preliminary Round and the Chopin’s Method

'Chopin speaks little and seldom about his art; but when he does speak of it, he does so with remarkable clarity and confidence in his judgments, which could dispel any heresy, if only he chose to speak plainly. Yet he prefers the private realm, expressing himself truly only through his piano. Still, he promises to write a method that would reveal not only his craft, but also his artistic doctrine. Will he keep his word.'
