Sa Chen
Sa Chen, one of China’s most promising pianist, described by BBC Classic ‘the most charismatic pianist of her generation’, Polish Government honored the ‘Chopin Art Passport’ for her sensitive and profound interpretation in Chopin’s music. As the cover artist of the launching issue of Gramophone Magazine (China Edition), she was as well named by the French magazine L’OFFICIEL as one of the ‘Top Ten Chinese Artists’.
In recent seasons, Sa toured as soloist/conductor with Hungarian Chamber Orchestra throughout Germany was overall highly acclaimed: ’She performed the contrasts of symphonic opulence and songlike chamber music intimacy and was able to interweave them brilliantly.’ (Johannes Seifert). Other highlights also includes touring with Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra with Chopin Concerti in China, Schubert Lieder concert tour with German baritone Matthias Goerne and recitals at Marinskii Theater in St. Petersburg and Champs-Élysées Theater in Paris, and concerto performances with Maestro Jaap Van Zweden and Charles Dutoit.
After winning major prizes of top international piano competitions – Leeds, Chopin, Cliburn at her early teenage, Sa has performed with prestigious orchestras, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, WDR Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra dell’ Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Royal Stockholm Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic, China Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and so on.
She also gave memorable performances at New York Carnegie Hall, Washington D.C Kennedy Center, London Barbican Center, Wigmall Hall, Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Sydney Opera House, Tokyo Suntory Concert Hall, National Centre for the Performing Arts in Peking, etc.
The enthusiasm of chamber music has brought her to appear in historical music festivals such as Lockenhaus Festival, Salzburg Festival, Ruhr Piano Festival, Duszniki Festival and St. Petersburg Piano Festival.
In October 2024, Sa Chen and her office ATELIERSA have independently released her latest album with recording producer Rainer Maillard refined by EBS Studios in Berlin. The album featured major golden works of piano literature – Liszt Sonata in B minor and Schumann Kreisleriana which is also available now on Apple Music, Spotify globally.
Sa has recorded overall eleven albums with JVC and IMC label in Japan, Pentatone in Netherlands, BIS in Sweden, and DECCA Asia.
Aside from her regular performance schedule, Sa engages herself in charity work. She was invited as Classical Artist to play the Piano Concerto ‘Green Call’ that World Bank and the Norwegian government premiered, appeared at the ‘Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day’ event in Washington D.C, joined to help promoting environmental protection program. In 2020 during the pandemic period, as the only classical artist Sa was invited to attend the world’s first offline forum of the UNESCO ‘ResiliArt’ in Beijing, China. Often Sa meets with children of special school and found immensely touched by the pure communication between and towards.
From year 2016, Sa Chen took part as jury in prestigious competitions, such as the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Leeds International Piano Competition UK, and Busoni Concourse Italy.
