Kotaro Shigemori was born on 11 January 2000. He has graduated from the Tōhō Gakuen Music Department under Katsurako Mikami and Michiko Okamoto. He then enrolled in the Tōhō Gakuen Soloist Diploma course and currently studies at the École normale de musique de Paris Alfred Cortot under Rena Shereshevskaya. He has won the Silver Medal at the Chopin International Piano Competition in Asia (Professional Category, 2018) and then 4th prize at the Marguerite Long & Jacques Thibaud International Competition in Paris (2022). He has performed in recitals and with famous orchestras such as the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, Aichi Central Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra de la Garde Republicaine in Paris.
